Rowan Cheshire British Skier

Rowan Cheshire is a 1.67 m British freestyle skier who specializes in the halfpipe. Cheshire was born in 1995, In Alsager, Cheshire, England. In January 2014 she became the first British female skier to win a halfpipe competition.

Cheshire started skiing at a young age, Which is pretty unusual for a girl from Cheshire. When only 18 years old she competed in the 2013 FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Voss, Norway, Placing 17th. In the same year, she participated at the 2013 World Junior Championships in Valmalenco and won a bronze medal. It was the perfect start for the teenage athlete. In 2014, she became the first British female skier to win a halfpipe competition. At the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Calgary. The achievement was special in the sense that nobody had taken part in the world Cup since Jilly Curry won an aerials competition in 1992.

Broken nose and concussion

After the achievement of the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup, Cheshire was very hopeful about the upcoming Olympics. Finally, the date came and Cheshire participated, representing Great Britain at the 2014 Winter Olympics which was held in Sochi, Russia. Unfortunately she became unconscious after a nasty accident during the training. After that, she had no alternative but to withdraw from the Olympics. It was one of the toughest moments for, Being left with a broken nose and severe concussion. Cheshire was taken to hospital and she went under treatment for the first of three head injuries for 18 months. As a result, she started living in severe physical and mental pain.

Cheshire was away from the sport for two years. But she did not lose her hope, And to follow her passion (skiing). Soon, Cheshire returned to compete in December 2016. It was her first competition and she finished fourth in a Revolution Tour event at Copper Mountain, Colorado. Then, Cheshire moved ahead to a World Cup competition in Mammoth Mountain, Where she finished 14th place in January 2017. Cheshire was determined to perform no matter what happened. During the competition of the 2016–17 FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup, Cheshire took a top 30 finish in the first halfpipe.

Cheshire moved to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics qualifying for the halfpipe skiing final. She finished seventh overall in the women’s ski halfpipe competition with a score of 75.40.
