Born in 1982, Cat Zingano is an American Mix Martial Arts athlete and UFC fighter. The statuesque 5’ 6” UFC beauty has fought a total of 14 matches in UFC. This includes 10 wins and 4 losses. She is a very successful MMA and UFC fighter. The most noticed bout was at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale, as she won a fight against Miesha Tate by TKO in the third round.
Zingano began her career as a mixed martial artist with wrestling at the age of 12. She had attended Fairview High School in Colorado and there, she faced wrestling. Later she also became part of the University of the Cumberlands and MacMurray College women’s wrestling teams. To complete the journey of becoming a 4-time All-American and National Champion. The year, 2007 was the period when Zingano was introduced to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She shortly after entered in her first amateur MMA fight in October of the same year. In 2008, she faced Karina Taylor and became the Ring of Fire Women’s Champion, winning her first fight.
Those early years of Zingano in MMA were very successful, and she won continuously in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 at Ring of Fire 32, Crowbar MMA and Fight To Win: Outlaws, Invicta FC 3: Penne vs Sugiyama respectively. However, due to injury, she was deprived of some matches, which affected her career. In February 2013, Zingano participated in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and won the bout that was named “Fight of the Night” at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. Later, she became a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 18 and the next challenger for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship. But due to a knee injury, she was opted out as a coach in May 2013 and she underwent PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) and stem cell treatment on both of her knees in October 2013.
Being injured was a tough period for Cat. Zingano was away from the sport a year and a half due to injury and she returned at UFC 178 on September 27, 2014, and won the title. It was only a year in which she won the match because the latter years were proved to be disastrous for the UFC beauty. Zingano had to face defeat in 2015, 2016 and 2018 until she came at UFC Fight Night 133 on July 14, 2018, to face Marion Reneau. Again in December 2018, Defeats continued up to 2019 until she declared her retirement from UFC on August 14, 2019. When she retired from the UFC, she was seventh in the official UFC bantamweight rankings. Later, she joined Bellator MMA in October of the same year.
Cat had married Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Mauricio Zingano In 2010. But the relationship of the couple didn’t last for long as Mauricio sadly committed suicide early in 2014. Now she lives with her son, Brayden. With her son, Zingano becomes the first mother who competes in the UFC. Zingano was one of the most motivational female UFC fighters.
